Unitary patent, what it is and why it is so profitable
From 1 June 2023 the Unitary Patent provides uniform protection in all EU Member States joining the EU Patent Package (Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland, Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Portugal, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Ireland) and entails the birth of a new centralized judicial system: the Unified Patent Court (UPC ).
For all the companies, the advantages mainly consist in a significant reduction in terms of costs and in an easier procedure: indeed, by paying a single renewal fee, it will be possible to obtain patent protection simultaneously in all the EU Countries participating in the initiative (17 Until today).
